What we offer

The Luton Foyer offers a range of services/facilities to meet the needs of our clients.

  • Housing advice and access to emergency and other types of accommodation. We hold lists of local Housing Associations and Private landlords some of whom accept Housing Benefit
  • Advice and assistance in seeking employment opportunities, job search skills and techniques. Up to date local employment vacancies.
  • Use of computers to produce CVs, covering letters, or careers package; 'Kudos' Access to training opportunities.
  • In partnership with a local FE college we offer Basic Food Health & Hygiene courses. We also hold a range of college prospectuses for both Further and Higher Education opportunities or we can offer online training courses via Learndirect.
  • Advice and advocacy to obtain information on welfare rights, benefits, housing, criminality, health concerns or immigration matters.
  • Use of telephones for supervised calls regarding housing, training, employment, welfare rights etc.
  • Access to a free, confidential counselling service.
  • Access to a Nurse Practitioner for advice, advocacy and information on general or mental health issues.
  • Café facilities run by the 'Befrienders', open to the general public.

We also offer a range of 'soft skills' sessions either as group work or on a one to one basis. Sessions include; Communication skills, Stress Management, Assertiveness and Money Management. These sessions can be held at either the Luton Foyer or other venues within the county.

Accessing Employment

To support access we have up-to-date information on employment vacancies, education and training courses, volunteer opportunities and benefits information. A mini resource centre is available where clients can use modern computer packages to explore career opportunities, to type letters and CVs or generally become more at ease with the world of information technology. Services for unemployed people with particular support needs are offered under a New Deal contract with JobCentre Plus.

Training & Education

We run short courses such as the certificated Basic Food Health and Hygiene course and sessions in 'soft skills' such as communication, managing stress, assertiveness, budgeting etc. It is also possible to access a wide range of online training courses via Learndirect - come and look at the catalogue of what is available.

Accommodation

We can assist people with links to accommodation such as hostels, housing associations, private landlords and other Foyers. Clients can use our telephone to make calls related to obtaining accommodation or employment.

Other Support

Staff offer one-to-one support and information about a wide range of agencies. It is also possible to have access to the services of a Nurse practitioner and to trained counsellors.

Monday:

Tuesday: Cyberskills workshop 4.00pm to 5.00pm

Wednesday: Counselling service appointments from 4.20pm to 6.40pm and Friday: 9.30am to 3.15pm

  • Luton Borough Council
  • Luton Community Housing ltd, training providers and colleges, employment agencies, housing and accommodation providers and other agencies offering a variety of support.

Our Facilities

Luton Foyer has a reception area with comfortable seating and information boards, individual interview rooms and a larger training room which are available for a variety of uses accommodating up to 20 delegates.

Refreshments ie Tea, Coffee and Biscuits 'On Tap' @ 75p per person.  To make a booking contact Luton Foyer on: 01582 401366.  On-site catering is supplied by the Friends Café which is run by the Befrienders offering supportive work placements to those recovering from mental health issues.
